In our blogs, we like to give information about our school, our programs, as well as cultural events that we gather to celebrate. For Example, did you know this week was the Chinese Lunar New Year, year of the snake?
At LCI, we welcome all cultures and like to inform others of the traditions and celebrations that come with them as well. For the Lunar New Year, our administrative team set out many snacks that are linked with the celebration for all our students to embrace in. We were so lucky to have Amber from level 7 explain to us what the candies represented and what some of the snacks were made from. Amber explained to us that some of the candy is considered “lucky candy” and will bring you money!
We also handed out Lunar scratch cards to all our students which revealed a lucky fortune for the year. Seeing all our students interacting in the celebration and sharing their fortunes with each other showed how united we can be. Two scratch cards revealed the word “winner” in which they won a prize of a bamboo plant.
At the end of our Listening and Speaking class, the students we able to play Chinese Lunar Bingo with their classmates and could be heard laughing and calling “BINGO!” with their peers. When class was over, a teacher mentioned that playing Bingo helped students learn English Vocabulary through the pictures on the card with the English name underneath it. It was exciting to hear that education was embedded in a fun card game.
